Replacing the Flint
Replacement frequency depends on use. Replace the flint when it is worn out.
- Remove the insert and turn it upside down. Slowly loosen the spring screw with a flathead screwdriver or coin, holding the spring so it does not jump out.
- Remove the spring and gently tap the insert to clear any remaining debris from the flint tube.
- Insert a new flint into the tube. The brass tip at the end of the spring is not a flint; do not discard it.
- Replace the spring and tighten the screw clockwise. Make sure the insert fits fully into the case and the lid closes.
- If a new flint makes the wheel difficult to turn, gently rotate the wheel backward a few times. Do not force it.
Spare flints can be stored beneath the felt pad.
