Understanding Zippo Case Finishes & Decoration

Interior Marks
During manufacturing, brass can react with the plating process. Rust-like or greenish marks may appear inside the case.

These are normal characteristics of the metal and do not prevent normal use.

Painted Finishes
Small dark specks, bubbles or marks may occur as part of this finishing process and are described here as normal finish characteristics rather than defects.

Emblems
Emblem adhesion can vary with the case material. An emblem may detach during use; this is treated as a characteristic of this decoration method. Keep the detached emblem and contact us for repair assistance.

Antique & Darkened Finishes
Friction or contact with solvents can cause fading or color loss during use. This is a normal characteristic of the finish rather than a product defect.

Laser Engraving
Engraving removes areas of the surface coating. Exposed metal may oxidize on contact with air, with variation according to engraving depth. This is a normal characteristic of laser engraving.

Polished Finishes
Light reflected from highly polished surfaces can create variations in apparent color and tone. This is a normal characteristic of the finish.

Avoid contact with solvents such as alcohol, which may damage these finishes. If contact occurs, wipe promptly with a soft lens-cleaning cloth.
Please consider these finish characteristics before purchasing, particularly if a flawless cosmetic appearance is essential to you.

Mirror Finishes
The smooth, highly reflective surface of a mirror finish naturally develops fine hairline marks through everyday handling, friction and cleaning. These are normal signs of use rather than product defects.

Foil Stamping
Protect foil-stamped areas from friction, heat, moisture and improper cleaning, which can cause lifting or damage. Avoid contact with metal or sharp objects, and keep away from hot or damp environments. Clean gently with a dry, soft cloth; do not use alcohol or chemical solvents.
